CSR Activities
Giving back to society and regions we operate in is important to us. A number of initiatives have been set up by the family, both in Africa and in India, with the main focus of educating and empowering underprivileged children. Since 2008 through our educational institutions, scholarships and tuition waivers of 6 million US dollars have been provided. Some of the other initiatives include:
South Africa -The ABN Education Trust was founded in 2011 by Rakesh and Saloni Wahi. The objectives of the trust are to:
- Care for abandoned children through its support for orphanages and day care centres
- Sponsoring the undergraduate studies of students from previously disadvantaged families
- Providing internship opportunities at CNBC Africa and Forbes Africa to equip them with skill sets required to face the challenges of the professional world.
Since inception, The Trust has provided support through contributions in cash and in kind, including the acquisition of a bus, a home, upgraded day care facilities, provision of groceries & provisions, clothes, blankets, school books and related accessories. The trust has also organised Christmas parties and Nelson Mandela Days, and continues to work closely with Day Care Centres in Johannesburg, contributing to their requirements on a case to case basis. (2011- 2019)
CNBC Golf Challenge – 15 Golf Days have been held since 2011 for fundraising for the ABN Education Trust.
Zambia– Contributions towards the building of toilet facilities for an orphanage (2012)
Kenya– Participating in various initiatives to keep young girls of the streets by sending regular contributions of clothes, household effects, cosmetics for a vocational training initiative for young girls (2015- 2016 )
Ghana– Through TAG (Transnational Education Group) we work closely with an orphanage in Accra providing them with blankets for the children, organising reading days, donating clothes, school books and stationery. This is an ongoing initiative
Rwanda– Providing Scholarships to underprivileged children. Ongoing initiative
India – CMA has been contributing to initiatives such as Lighting A Billion Lights Project by TERI for electrification of 2 Villages in 2011, EKAL Vidayala in 2013. Recent activities include
-The establishment of the Shobhana Wahi Education Trust in Dehra Dun to fund the vocational education of underprivileged girls. (2014)
– Setting up of a Trust to pay for the education of the children of Class IV employees at the Prestigious National Defence Academy, Pune (2015)
– A Medical Insurance was undertaken for all the Caddies of the Army Golf Club (2019)
– Ceramics That Care – Annual Pottery Exhibitions by Mrs Saloni Wahi in different cities have been held (2017-18 and 2019). Proceeds of which go towards the ABN Education Trust, in South Africa
