Carsten Philipson

Carsten is based in Tampa, Florida and is the Managing Director of Communications Equity Associates (“CEA”) Media LLC.
Carsten Philipson started his investment-banking career by joining (CEA) in 1990 and was transferred to Germany in late 1990 to assist in the startup of CEA’s Munich office. While in Munich, Carsten was involved in a number of corporate finance and investment banking transactions in both Western and Central Europe. During his three years in Germany, Carsten was directly involved in transactions covering news and magazine publishing, cable television, television programming, radio and television broadcasting, satellite-delivered programming services, video duplication and the music recording industry.

In 1993, Carsten relocated to CEA’s Tampa headquarters, where he has been involved in the establishment and management of CEA’s merchant banking activities covering principally CEA’s private equity investment funds in Europe, Asia-Pacific and Australia. Carsten was responsible for structuring and raising the $ 102 million CEA Asia-Pacific Fund co-managed with Barings Private Equity Partners based in London. CEA currently manages ten private equity funds capitalized in excess of $ 1.1 billion.
At the creation of CEA’s Middle Eastern subsidiary Communications Development Corporation (CDC) in 1997, Carsten became its Managing Director, overseeing the company’s multi-faceted activities and its expansion throughout the Middle East.

Prior to joining CEA, Carsten worked in New York City as a Commercial Advisor for the Royal Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
